This month we’re screening: Rising from the Tsunami by Hélène Robert and Jeremy Perrin (France, 2019) 68 minutes VOSC
A story about ghosts and spirits that shows how the tsunami waves that shook Japan in 2011 are still alive in the collective imagination of the people who suffered the tragedy. We watch in disbelief the construction of a huge breakwater wall of over 400 km which will completely block the opening to the sea of the villages along the coast of Tohoku.

Johnny Gray is the engineer for the Western and Atlantic Flyer, and his engine is named "The General." There are two loves in Johnny's life, "The General" and Annabelle Lee. During a visit to Annabelle's home, her brother comes in and announces that Fort Sumter has been fired upon, and, immediately, he and Annabelle's father go to enlist in the Southern cause. Johnny does, too, but he is rejected because "he is more valuable to the South as an engineer." Due to a misunderstanding, Annabelle's father and brother think Johnny refused to sign up. After being told of his supposed cowardice, Annabelle informs Johnny that she will not speak to him again until he is in uniform. A year later, a group of Union soldiers led by Captain Anderson steal Johnny's train with Annabelle in one of the boxcars. Johnny gives chase in another train with all sorts of mishaps and comicals events happening along the way. Deep into Union territory, the Yankee soldiers realize Johnny is alone on the train. Johnny deserts the train and flees into the woods.

This month we’re screening: Sommaren med Monika (Summer with Monika) by Ingmar Bergman (Sweden, 1952), 93 minutes, VOSE
Harry Lund, 19 years old, works at a stock-room for glass and porcelain. In the vicinity works 17 year old Monika at a stock-room for vegetables. Monika is a cheerful and happy young woman and when she sees Harry at a cafe she starts to talk with him. They fall in love with each other. Because of their age, they are both harassed at their respective places of work. Monika has an argument with her father and leaves her home, Harry has an argument with his boss and quits. Since they have nothing that ties them to the city, they take Harry's small boat to the archipelago to be alone for a few weeks.
